Okay it's the 3rd of October, you've waited long enough, it's the moment you anticipate at the beginning of each and every month.... the announcement of the Center Point Legion Veteran of the Month!
However, I first want to again give a thank you to Chilled for providing meals to our Vets. Your selfless generosity is greatly appreciated!
Now for what you came here for.... the Veteran of the Month for October 2023, Mr Sean Stuelke!
Sean is a graduate from CPU in 2008, not quite a month after walking the stage he was off to boot camp in the Marine Corps. Going out on a limb and saying he probably had a bit of a culture shock with that. Sean spent 4 years in the USMC and was stationed out of Cherry Point, NC. He went in as an AO (Aviation Ordanceman), simply put, he was attaching the bombs to the jets, Harriers to be more specific. In doing that he was able to live out every Marines dream and be attached to a Naval ship most his time in service. Okay that's half true.... Sean spent a great deal of time with his Harrier squadron attached to the USS Kearsarge. In that time he unfortunately took part in 3 steel beach picnics.
While that might sound intriguing, it means you have been out to sea a minimum of 45 days straight. The ship "celebrates" that by having a BBQ and each of the crew gets 2 beers. During his time he was also part of the NATO strike on Libya, a result of sanctions being broke. He was deployed as well and part of the Navy ships that put Osama Bin Laden to rest. That is an extremely huge part of history he was directly affiliated with. Absolutely incredible to be a part of.
Sean has a sister in the Air Force, a brother in the Marines, a Grandpa that served in the Air Force and a Great Uncle that earned a silver star during Pearl Harbor, his dad John was a life long member of law enforcement. So you could definitely say service to others before yourself runs in the family.
When asked about hobbies and interest, his response is like many others in his situation... I have a 11, 7 and 2 year old. So there isn't a whole lot of free time to be spent elsewhere. However he and his wife Molly, also a CPU graduate, wouldn't want it any other way. While it gets hectic, Sean does enjoy hunting and has a great location for it. Oh, apparently he likes the Packers, which hey, nobody bats a 100 so I won't hold it against him. Sean just to let you know AJ said Go Cowboys.
Please join me in congratulating our October Veteran of the Month, Mr Sean Stuelke.
