Phillip Krumm

May 2024

Mr. Phillip Krumm! Phillip was raised right outside Center Point on a farm and prior to being drafted he joined the US Air Force in 1967. He attended basic training in Amarillo TX, and was shipped off to Sheppard AFB in Witchita Falls TX for his training. There he learned the ins and outs of aircraft maintenance. He graduated as one of the top airmen in his class and selected to remain at Shepherd and teach the class that he just graduated from. After 2 years of teaching he shipped off to Vietnam. There he was a crash recovery team member at Tuy-Hoa AB. He was responsible for recovering aircraft that came back with battle damage and couldn’t land safely or slid off the runway. He also traveled around Vietnam recovering aircraft that couldn’t make it back to the base and had to land at civilian airfields or just in open fields. They’d remove all the sensitive equipment/ammunition from the crashed aircraft and scrap the rest if it couldn’t be saved. After his year in Vietnam he was sent to California and worked the SR-71 Blackbird, a top secret spy plane at the time, so as a fellow Air Force veteran that’s a pretty cool assignment!! In 1971 Phillip bought the farm he still lives and works on today. It’s only a mile from the farm he grew up on. In May of 1974 he married Sandy and they started their family. They raised their 2 girls and now love entertaining their 4 grandkids on the farm. Phillip loves playing golf, spending time with family and friends and just relaxing in his free time. Everyone please help me thank Phillip for his service to this great country!
