Frank Stephenson

March 2025

The Center Point Legion would like to announce our newest Veteran of the Month, Mr. Frank Stephenson. Frank was drafted into the Army in 1960. He went to basic training at Fort Riley KS and then was off to Fort Sam Houston in TX where he trained as a medic. When he was drafted he was working at Rapids Chevrolet so he wanted to be trained as a mechanic in the Army. So when they asked what job he wanted that’s what he told the Army, and the Army then obviously sent him to be a medic! After training he spent 2 years on active duty and then went to the reserves where he trained at Fort McCoy in WI and back at Fort Riley KS. After those 2 years he went on inactive reserve and moved back to Iowa settling in Center Point in 1964. Now even though Frank was drafted his family has a history of service. His dad served in the Army in WWII, his older brother was a Marine in Korea and his younger brother was in the Army in Vietnam. A lot of sacrifice for one family to give to this country. Frank then went back to work at Rapids Chevy and ended up working there 33 years. Frank married his wife June in 1960 and they’ve been married for 65 years! That’s quite an accomplishment in itself. They moved into their current house in 1970 and raised 4 kids there. A little fun fact he told me is they have the 2nd oldest telephone line in Center Point. Now Frank and June enjoy time spent with family, their 10 grandkids and 4 great grandkids. Help me thank Frank and his family for all their service!
