Our VOTM for March is Mr Brian "Butch" Kramer. Butch was and as they say, once one always one, a member of the Marines Corps. Mr Kramer served 1959-1963 as a Radio Operator and Reconnaissance. Butch initially served overseas in Okinawa and the Philippines. He also, as very few did, served in the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, an often overlooked period in our US and Military history.
After getting out of the service, Butch went on to work at Rockwell Collins for 34 years retiring in 1996. After which he was a staple at the Center Point Golf Course, very few times you would not see him out there.
His service to the community came in one important form. If you played Little League baseball throughout the 70s and 80s, he probably called you out a few times. Back when Center Point started up little league at Fross Park he was one of the original and main volunteers. You could say he was the de facto commissioner. Helping organize teams and keeping structure to the seasons was a huge part of his duties. Earlier I said he probably called you out if you were a part of Little League back in the day. It is because he was the umpire, when I mean he was the umpire, he was it, just him. We only had one ballfield back then. It didn't matter if it was a double header, triple header, an off game or a tournament. Butch umpired EVERY SINGLE GAME! I have no idea how many other than saying an absolute truck ton of them. He was a part of every one of us growing up as kids for decades.... Thank you for your volunteerism to our community.
Golfing, Fishing, Hunting and really anything outdoors were all activities he enjoyed in his years.
Butch is married to Sue, they have 2 boys, 3 granddaughters and 1 great granddaughter.
Please join me in thanking Butch for his service to our country and community!
